Centrally located on a quiet residential street in downtown Chicago's most upscale (and safe!)neighborhood, The Aster House offers an ideal starting point for exploring the city.
Fine shops, cafes, restaurants, pizzerias, sports bars, theatres, movies, museums, music venues, art galleries, the post office, the library, dry cleaner, a park with free tennis courts and playground out back, ice cream shop, three Starbucks, day spas, hair and nail salons, DePaul University, a late-night pharmacy, and for any jet-lag or late nights there's a 24-hour grocery and a 24-hour restaurant all within 1/2 to 2 blocks!
It's 4 - 8 blocks to two comedy clubs, the city park, two farmers' markets, the free city zoo and botanical gardens, and the lake/Fullerton beach. Wrigley Field is a delightful 10-block walk or a quick door-to-door subway ride.
And we're 1/2 -1 block from the subway/el, taxicabs and several buses to reach all the rest of the city's attractions.
The house has a shared back yard, a covered verandah with rockers and a sundeck with umbrella table, chaise and grill. Built in 1891, it is large and beautifully decorated with fine 19th century American and European antiques and reproductions -- yet loaded with 21st century amenities including guest-controlled air conditioning, cable television, high-speed Internet, free secured innwide Wifi, free local phone calls, ceiling fans, and if needed, easy street parking for your car.
The units are fully furnished, and all utensils, hair-driers, kitchenware, sheets, quilts, towels, iron, etc. are included -- just bring your toothbrushes! :-D
We have two apartments -- *Elizabeth's Place* and *Alice's Annex* each sleep up to six guests. There is a connecting door between the two apartments, which could be unlocked to create one huge unit for a large group.
*Elizabeth's Place* offers an antique-filled living room with cable television with cable and VCR player and videos, a formal dining room that seats twelve, a book-filled study with stereo, bathroom with shower over clawfoot tub, two phone extensions with answering machine, and an eat-in kitchen with first-rate appliances, e.g. SubZero refrigerator, dishwasher and Corian counters and sink and a complimentary front-load washer and dryer. For sleeping six there is a bedroom with a queen bed, a bedroom with a full bed and the study has a full deluxe futon.
*Alice's Annex* is a spacious garden apartment, charmingly decorated with 19th century American antiques and fine reproductions. It has a living room, book-filled study, stereo with in-wall speakers, kitchen, dining nook, sitting area with cable television and VCR and videos, bathroom with shower over tub, two phones with answering machine, complimentary front-load washer and dryer and a private entrance. For sleeping, there is a queen bed in the bedroom, a queen sleeper sofa in the living room and a single bed in a sleeping nook. Another single bed may be added
