MAYAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES.

    Yucatan is rich in Mayan history and has a multitude of archaeological sites.  Many major ruins are located within a radius of 3 hours from the Villa, the closest just 20 minutes away.
    Dzibilchaltun - with its new, excellent Mayan museum, ecological path to the ruins, and beautiful cenote for swimming, it's just 10 minutes drive from Progreso.
    X-tambo - an exciting new site recently under excavation by archaeologists, this is definitely a National Geographic type of experience! Located just past Uaymitun on the beach road leading
from Chicxulub.
    Uxmal - along the Pucc Route one finds many ruins and the main attraction is Uxmal for its colossal Magician's pyramid and elaborate sound and light show, which reflects the Mayan history.
    Izamal - the yellow city, a jewel with ruins right in its center.  Visit the town by horse and buggy to discover Mayan pyramids and a grand monastery.  Enjoy lunch and local cultural events of
dancing and singing.
    Chichen Itza - the world-renowned ruins date back 1553 years, and depict the sophisticated Mayan culture of the times.  Located just 2 hours from the Villa, these ruins are well worth the tour and don't forget to stop at the refreshing underground cenote of Ykil.
    Thousands of Flamingos may be seen from the flamingo lookout tower located in Uaymitun.
Entrance and binoculars are free.  Many other species of birds abound along the estuary.

Celestun is a natural reserve 2 hours from the Villa.  Flamingo boat tours are available and the small fishing town is quite picturesque with fine seafood restaurants. 

GENERAL TRAVEL INFORMATION
Flights to MERIDA Airport (MID) depart from Texas , Florida or Mexico City (about 1-1/2 hours flight). From Los Angeles (LAX) via Mexico City or Houston to Merida, (about 6 hours) .
From Cozumel and Cancun there are express bus services to Merida ($36), about 4 hours travel.
Highways are good. Major car rentals available at Merida Airport.  
Chicxulub Puerto is located in the northwest corner of the Yucatan Peninsula on the Gulf of Mexico.
The Villa is 40 minutes to Merida and the Airport.
Chicxulub is 10 km east of Progreso.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO THE VILLA. (40 MINUTES)
From Merida airport: Turn left at the airport exit traffic light. After 1km, take the on-ramp, right, onto the “Periferico” east. (Note! the Periferico is an outer ring road circling Merida).
After approximately 12 kilometers , follow the signs to PROGRESO. 
 Proceed north to PROGRESO on this straight highway from Merida for about 20 km, finally crossing a low concrete bridge over water, on the outskirts of PROGRESO. {There is a Pemco gas
station on the right across next intersection}.
Turn right at this intersection.  Road sign indicates 10 Km to CHICXULUB. 
Do not take the left turn sign to Chicxulub Puerto at 10km. Go 1 km more to over head flashing yellow lights and speed bump {a small concrete police station building on the right here}.
About 200yards past the flashing lights turn left onto a dirt lane marked “MONKYS” and a monkey face on a concrete sign. A adjacent sign has “CASTILLO NICTE HA” impressed in it.
Proceed about 300 yards. Castillo Nicte-Ha Villa is the tallest and only white three story building visible on the left. One house over on the left.  The care-takers residence is at the rear of the house.  

  Arrange for a representative and/or driver to meet you at the airport to take, guide or assist you to get to Castillo Nicte Ha (a 40 minute drive) $50. Additional vehicles will be required to transfer groups over 4 persons. Please pay the driver when picked up.
